Mrs. Lopez's Classroom

My
name is Lia Lopez, and I will be your child's guide through learning
this year. I am very excited to meet your family, and hope that we build
a lasting partnership. I'd like to tell you a little bit about
myself. I
am a California native, from San Jose in Northern California's Silicon
Valley. I moved here in 2006 to be close to my (then) baby niece, Ava. I
opened the school in 2006, as a member of the second grade team. I
received both my bachelor's and master's degrees in education from San
Jose State University. I am entering my 15th year of teaching. I have taught 2nd grade for the last 8
years, and I have also taught kindergarten, fifth, and Gifted and Talented.
In San Jose, I was fortunate to teach at a school in the very district
in which I grew up. After teaching there for 6 years, I was ready for a
new adventure, and I moved to Colorado.
My
husband, Raul, is also a Bay Area native, and he followed his heart
(and me!) to Colorado in 2010. We have had a busy few years. After a
long relationship spanning ups and downs and two states, we married in
2011, and had our daughter Mila in 2012. Mila has taught me a love I
had never known before, and I'm hoping that it brings me a new
understanding and love for my students as well. We are expecting the newest addition to our family, a baby boy, in early December. We just can't wait to meet him!
Teaching
is my true passion. I love working with kids and families. Partnership
and communication are at the core of my teaching philosophy- I hope we
can build lasting relationships. I look forward to meeting you and your
children, and sharing laughs and smiles as we grow together this year.
Please do not hesitate to reach out! Here's to a great year!
